Finished up a little Hippo Softie I've been working on for a while. She is the first of a pattern I drew up so she's more or less a proto-type. I had intended for her to be a ballerina but forgot to sew on her "ballet slippers" so just gave her a basic skirt instead out of princess & castle fabric.
I have quite a few other patterns for softies that I drew up just waiting to be tested. My heart is usually set on creating primitive dolls & folkart but the softies offer an outlet for the wonderful bright colored fabric you don't see in primitives. I'm teaching myself to double-seam the dolls and hem all the rough edges - something that's not normally done in primitive doll making. Wow, does that take patience. This makes the softie more durable and safe for kids. No button eyes, etc.
Thanks for stopping by and checking out Hippo...I guess she needs a name, doesn't she?

ReplyDeleteLisa I think these are adorable, specially the hippo doll. I would hate to see you leave the primitive dolls behind but I can see how working with colors and whimsey could steal your heart. Tell us where you are selling them.
